Our Story
The Dwelling Place began as a result of prayer during the summer of 2006 when a group of 50 people gathered together in the cafeteria of Hamilton Christian Academy to seek God's direction.
Each Sunday more people joined in with the same heart . . . after God. Within a month's time, we grew to 120 people. On June 18, we were handed the keys to Marilyn's Catering in Sulphur who generously allowed us to meet in their facility at no cost and helped us during our humble beginning.

During the next 3 months we sought the godly counsel of Pastor Sam Carr in Shreveport who played a vital role in helping us organize our Board and established principles of financial transparency and spiritual accountability. By August David was appointed Pastor, as it was obvious God had chosen him to lead our Church.
As we outgrew Marilyn's and were in need of children's facilities, in September 2006 we moved back to Hamilton Christian Academy . . . meeting every Sunday in the gym. For the next 2 years, a faithful group of men arrived at 6am each week to transform the gym into a place for our Church family to meet.

In August 2008 we were given opportunity to lease Journey Church (formerly known as Revival Center) while David Holton served as pastor. Succeeding his father, Howard Holton, who pastored for over 40 years, David knew his role would only be for a season.
As David Holton and David Roth established a relationship, it become more and more clear to David Holton what God had planned . . . for the two churches to unite. After much prayer and godly counsel David Holton felt confident to entrust his congregation to the leadership of Pastor David Roth. Easter Sunday of 2009, the two churches united as Howard & David Holton passed the mantle of leadership and pronounced their blessing.
Shortly following, The Spanish Church, who were also leasing the facility, united with The Dwelling Place. As they maintain their own services in Spanish, Pastor Jose and his wife Francine continue to carry out the vision God gave them . . . to be a bridge between the American and Spanish community.
Within a year's time we have helped to plant House of Worship under the leadership of Pastor Brian and Natalie Fitkin, who were former members of Revival Center. We continue to support their vision of reaching families in the Sweetlake area with God's love and life.
God united three Churches into one, enabling us to move forward with His plan more effectively than we could have seperately. As our Church family continues to grow and ministries flourish, we constantly pray as we have since our beginning . . . for God's plan and purpose.
